SEAN HUGHES, art director of CityBeat newspaper and photographer, traveled to Cuba for the first time in March of 1993. Anticipating a cold, harsh communist environment, he found quite the opposite: a warm, proud, spirited people. Despite an unstable economy and shortages of food and other resources, the Cuban people still laugh and learn, play and grow.
