SEAN HUGHES, art director of CityBeat newspaper and photographer, traveled to Cuba for the first time in March of 1993. Anticipating a cold, harsh communist environment, he found quite the opposite: a warm, proud, spirited people. Despite an unstable economy and shortages of food and other resources, the Cuban people still laugh and learn, play and grow. His images have been exhibited at The Carnegie Center for the Arts, Kentucky; San Guiseppe Studio, Cincinnati, Ohio; Viva, Cincinnati, Ohio; Kaldi's, Cincinnati, Ohio; One Mo' Cup Coffee Cafe, Cincinnati, Ohio and The Fototeca de Havana, Havana, Cuba. These photographs represent Hughes' experiences with the resilient Cuban people in their ever-changing environment. [photos]
